about

The Mailman, as with all of Schafer's solo work is as described by David Perron of Free Form Freakout a "beguiling sonic puzzle". On side A, Schafer's sound and text tell us a dramatic story across a series of short compositions while the B side offers re-interpretations from artists "Near and dear" between captivating interludes. An exciting and emotional recording worth many, many listens.

Troy Schafer is a Wisconsinite composer, performer and recording artist whose work is primarily engaged with violin, voice and displaced sounds. He is recognized for his modern classical music as well as collaborations with Kinit Her, Wreathes, Burial Hex, Wormsblood, Rain Drinkers, Devotion, Spiral Joy Band and the Chagas Schafer duo. He studied orchestra education at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and recently completed a Master's Degree in Sound at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Schafer describes his current solo works as “A distant echo of anti-cerebral ballad casting, psychic and free association, sonic rhetoric becoming notion of future past, organic subjectivities through pneumatic escape, vengeance tympanum and continuity.”
